Ok, it's a commercial, but what the hell, I like it

and just for fun, another look at the piece of music featured in the commercial

I can see somebody doing a novelization of this commercial like Susannah James did with "Love Over Gold," the novelization of the Gold Blend coffee commercials. (I have it, I read it, and I liked it). :-O

Wicked Awesome! As someone who is deaf herself this was amazing to see. Thanks for the heads up. Indigo

Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Pachabel rant was awesome!

Have you seen Igudseman and Joo? (Think Victor Borge.) Two classically trained performers who met in London and know how to put on a show. I'd recommend Rachmaninov had big Hands and I Will Survive.

Beautiful. You've got me crying into my morning coffee, Janet.

A wonderful visual story about not giving up on your dreams. Thank you. :)

I cried. Thank you.

I walked down the aisle to canon in D.

God, I love that piece of music, even if it's no fun for the cellist.

The Pachelbel rant was hillarious. It's true, that melody is everywhere, but only because it's so awesome!

Are you SURE you don't want a novel about a string quartet? :-)

And this proves it: if it can't be fixed with packing tape, it can't be fixed.

Janet Reid said...

Phil, funny you should mention that. I read a novel recently about a string quartet and I was sad when it didn't have quite enough right for me to say yes. I still think about it.

I love Pachelbel, but for a shampoo ad?

Oh dear.

Dear Ms. Reid,

I wonder if you're familiar with the Asian kids' metal-shredder guitar versions of Pachelbel that made the internet rounds a few years ago?

There were many who played, but this guy was probably the most famous with 65 million + viewings.

If this was for a movie, I'd splurge and see it in theaters.

Oh bloody hell. I have to go reapply my mascara now.

Stunning.

If I buy some Pantene, will I be able to play like that (and have her strength, courage, intelligence and heart)? That would be worth any price.

You always know where the beautiful things are, Janet. How do you do that? Thanks for sharing.

Sophie Playle said...

It put me off that those people were only miming playing... urg. Great advert, but I laughed out loud at the end when it revealed that it was about Pantene.

I'm a goob, I cried!

Janet, you should type in "The best wedding entrance ever" on Youtube. It's had over three million views, and I have a feeling you would like it.

Oy... why is it always commercials that make me cry. :)

I'm all a blubber. A beautiful inspirational piece. When is the movie coming out?

Susan Adrian said...

Oooh, I loved it!

And better, Child did too. :)

As Melanie said, the best wedding entrance ever is hilarious.

Thanks for sharing this. The piece means a lot to me. I was a mediocre pianist until at age 14 someone told me I could play this difficult piece. And I did.

I appreciate your advice about query letters and take it all to heart. Have you had to change the focus of your blog for a reason? Will we see more queries torn apart? Love those posts.

Thanks again.

Or how about this...hello! I have been keeping up with TWO of your blogs and accidentially linked this one as your Query Shark blog.

A big DUH moment. Sorry.

This made me cry. I'm not deaf, but I have other health issues. I seldom speak of them to any but friends and family. I write and research frantically because in time I will not be able to. I struggle with fingers reluctant to find their proper place on a keyboard, with a mind that loses its place in time and struggles to find lost details of daily living.

Sometimes I can recover, and often I can cover the slips and missing bits of life with bluff. My family and friends know what I'm doing, most others either find me annoying or abscent minded.

I am, in many ways, the girl in the video. I identify with her. I've quit writing dozens of times. But my writing never stays in abeyance.

Together with my writing partner, I've become a recognized expert in a very narrow field of religous history. And then there is my fantasy novel - which people either love or hate. There seems to be no middle ground there.

But every projet I take on has endless urgency. It may never be finished.

I probably should not be posting any of this online, but I am doing it anyway. You can succeed. It is a real sin to not try. If you're a writer and struggle with it, I understand. On a really bad day everything I write is roughly expressed and poorly written. I use the good moments to fix that.

True, not many read the history I write. It's a subject with limited interest. But it is important to ME! And I pour my life into it while I can.

Write. Write well. Even if you can't do that now, you can learn. Never stop. If you must stop let it be when they pry your hands off the keyboard for the last time.

I do not want your sympathy. Do not mistake my reason for telling you all of this. What I want is for you to create. I want you to entertain the world, or at least a small part of it. Use what you have while you have it. Do not waste a second.
