Query Status!

As of 3:40pm today, Saturday 8/15, I have replied to all queries I've received.

If you did not receive a reply, here's a blog post to help you figure out if you should email me to find out why:

Query Letter Diagnostics

You should have received either a NO or a request for a full.
If you got an email some time ago saying I needed more time, I have now read and responded with NO or REQUEST to each of those.

If you got an email requesting a FULL I have replied with a "got it." I may not have read and responded to your full yet (I have 27 fulls pending right now) but you should have the email saying I received it.

If you haven't heard back (and you've gone through the Query Diagnostics steps), or you haven't heard that I've received the full, EMAIL ME NOW.

I'm getting ready to leave for Alaska, and once I'm gone I won't be checking email or uploading manuscripts to my trusty Kindle for awhile. Do this NOW so we can both be caught up.

Congratulations on getting caught up! Enjoy Alaska. It shouldn't be too cold this time of year.

Congrats on being caught up! I have the urge to make up fifty queries on random topics (lessons I learned from my cat's fleas?) but I will restrain myself.

That's odd. I got a response from you asking for a full...cup of coffee.

This is the most amazingly considerate thing. Thank you for allowing 27 of us to take a deep breathe. Have a great trip.

WAAAHHHH! We miss you!

Sorry, just practicing. Have a great time. Anyone care to take odds on the shark versus the polar bear. . . .?

Alaska is amazing. I hope the fulls in your Kindle are too!

Drink in the beauty and peace. (and if you're a fan of beer - seek out the local micro-brews. There are some fab ones!

Oh hell! Alaska is a cold, cold place.

Go easy on us when you return!

What's wonderful about you, Janet, is that you blog on weekends - and the "got it" is more considerate than you can imagine. I always wonder if requesting agents got it (and once they've got it, will they get it??) Have a great trip.

Have fun! I head Alaska is beautiful.

When you say that the email address must match the name, do you mean that the name would have to be (say) Sassy McSassypants so the email has to be smcsassypants@email(dot)com, or could it be (same name) but bearsRcute@email(dot)com?

Janet Reid said...

Leigh, I strongly encourage writers to have an email address that corresponds intuitively if not exactly with their name:

Sassypants@email.com is great if your name is Sassafrass Pantalones. Not so great if it is, for example, Leigh Lyons.

The reason for this is that spam filters pick up account name/email name mismatches as potential spam. When I see it in my spam filter, I look for that correlation that the computer with its linear thinking might not see.

Given there are several ways to get free email accounts, let alone the myriad ways to get custom email, it's nuts not to invest the minimal effort required to make sure you're wearing matching sox.

Bring back a souvenir, but remember polar bears don't fit too well in hand luggage.

Okay, since you're giving query advice... if I have queried another FinePrint Lit agent, and she didn't get back to me... and I waited 8 weeks and emailed with a polite query again... and it's now been been ANOTHER 8 weeks and I still haven't heard anything, what should I do?

I hear ya' Ricky Bush. I moved to Texas a week and a half ago and it is hot! Although we had the most terrific rainstorm (probably closer to a monsoon!) last week :)

CKHB:

If you queried Colleen Lindsay, she's not accepting queries right now. If this is the agent you're talking about, I'd suggest you try another.

If it's another agent at Fineprint... I know nothing. I only know about Colleen because I follow her on Twitter.
