Crit groups

I think critique groups can be a very powerful tool. Several of my clients are involved in crit groups; even the published writers. Crit groups aren't just for beginners.

Here's a post from Karen Kennedy's blog about the value of hers.

I gotta find me one of these. (Though I am quite lucky to have an excellent crit partner I've never met in person...maybe I should count my lucky stars. Bobbie, if you're out there, you rock.)

Thanks for the shout-out! They're an invaluable group--after all, they got me to you!

I once had a wonderful writer tell me to appreciate my crit grp-that what we had was rare and special. He was right. And I do. I'm so grateful. Somehow I managed to hook up with an incredible bunch of writers. Much like it seems Karen has.

I learned it the hard way, though. The one time I didn't rely on them-instead, workshopped it elsewhere- big mistake. Never again. I'm a fortunate woman to have them.

I actually found a useful crit partner web page not too long ago-- http://critpartnermatch.ning.com/

It's kindof like a social dating site, except you're looking for crit partners instead. It's fairly new, but I really think it's a great idea.
