Usually I only visit Nathan Bransford on Friday night

But I'm sitting around waiting for a conference call so I'm doing fun stuff I can stop in a second. I really like his post on what advice to offer an agent, but what really got me was one of the commenters who said s/he'd stricken several agents from his/her submission list because they seemed bitter or impatient. Oops! Another querier sqashed!

So is this Friday night thing a hard and fast rule you've got, and how do you feel about sharing Nathan with Heidi Montag?

I don't think you're talking about me but I've scratched agents off my list because of their blog (not you!). It wasn't that they posted impatience at a messy query or crabbed about any part of the biz but it was something else. Like their ego was spilling over into their posts or something. A higher then thou attitude? Nasty comments when there was really no need?
Over all I think most agent blogs are useful. Some agents have moved up on my list because of their blog. (Yes, you.) So it can work both ways.

Interesting, I just wrote about this on my blog, which I am renaming Whine and Roses.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but why let common sense get in the way of running my mouth?

When an agent uses their professional blog to post a rant about politics or religion it makes me cringe. I already marked one off the list after reading such a post. I'm sure she would be devastated if she knew she lost me as a potential client. *snickers softly*

I do get certain feelings about agents from blogs that are pretty intangible. I just get a gut reaction we would not mesh. Then I have to wonder if it's time for me to stop reading agent blogs. Or, maybe, I should just stop posting in them.

I probably will use the blogs as another tool when I start querying. I see no sense wasting their time or mine if we don't have a good chance of fitting.

who is Heidi Montag?

She's this chick on The Hills, a reality MTV show (is that redundant these days?). Nathan's got the hots for her. Really, Nathan can do better. MUCH better.

who is Heidi Montag?

You are better off not knowing.

I think bitter and impatient is highly underestimated!!

Heidi Montag is bitter and impatient?

Bitter about the body nature gave her, although she's had that corrected now. Impatient with not being more famous than she is, despite having more fame than her talents warrant.
